Amethyst: Charming Chennai

Today I take you to this interesting cafe called 'Amethyst'.
Set in a beautiful property with vintage architecture, furniture and artifacts.

The pillars, slopping roof, wooden doors, boxed glass windows, Black and white checkered flooring a must of the golden era..

Each sitting area is unique and classy and I couldn't resist but click all I could.. The wooden furniture in a spacious hall breathes life into the place.. I can hear the deep conversations that linger and stay long after they ended...

The Black leather seating on B&W checkered floor - a picture perfect setting from the 1920s. I wonder if the English Babus are arriving any minute for their evening tea and tete-a-tete

So similar yet so different from the earlier setting.. it oozes simple and warm ambience

The cafes in the olden era always boasted of a typical chest at the entrance... it was where they kept the bowl to drop visiting cards or pick up the entertainment schedules. This one here stays honest to its tradition of information and decor style of course...

But my favorite pieces in the decor were the collection of photographs of 'Lord Krishna'. The brightness, the colors, the drama, the background - everything is so appealing and intriguing...
Kudos to the interior designer who came up with the authentic idea to frame the awesome Krishna collection and adorn the walls.

The photographer does a marvellous job of capturing Krishna in his mystic avatar...

There is no end to the creativity of the designer. What a lovely piece of 'Nandi - the bull'. I have seen many interpretations of Nandi - generally sacred and powerful. But this one is the most colorful and artistic one I have ever seen.. Kudos to the creator and the decorator...

In any other setting this would have looked rustic and dirty but here it looks gorgeous and classy.. (even the cracked mouth and the tongue coming out)

If all my talking makes you think this place is only about decor.. then I regret because the food here is lovely too.. So after all the tiring clicking.. it was gorging time.. Care for an apple pie!!
There is also a shop upstairs which sells all arty-farty stuff. Its damn expensive but worth a look..
Next time you are in Chennai do visit the Cafe Amethyst
for art's sake ;))
